Rory Scovel Live At Third Man Records 6-22-2013 on LP
Hand selected by Jack White, comedian Rory Scovel came, saw and destroyed any and all bad vibes within a 5 mile radius of the Third Man Blue Room with an improv set of some of the best live stand up the label has seen in years. Seriously, the man far exceeded even their lofty expectations for hilarity.
Since then Rory has had a bumper few months, appearing on Conan O' Brian in a tuxedo performing uber-classy comedy with live Liberace-style piano accompaniment, co-starring on new TBS comedy Ground Floor and generally ruling the school and jettisoning jocularity into the universe in every town and festival he visits on tour.
The sleeves and labels for Rory Scovel's Live At Third Man Records release feature the track list all in braille. That's right. Braille. It'll all make sense when you hear the album. It's another meta-comedy first from Third Man Records and Rory Scovel!
The Third Man Live records are a continuous series of full-length albums recorded in the label's Blue Room which is, arguably, the only current venue in the world where an artist can record a live set direct-to-tape in front of a paying audience. These shows are recorded onto one-inch 8-track tape (usually by Grammy Award-winning engineer Vance Powell) in front of lucky-to-get-a-ticket crowds.
The 8-track master is mixed to 2-track tape at Third Man Studio and that tape is then used to cut the vinyl master, thus ensuring the recording remains in the analog domain the entire time and is never transferred to a digital signal. At this time the Third Man Live series is only available on vinyl and not any other format.
