In 1994 Pogues frontman Shane Macgowan formed his new band The Popes and released his first solo album The Snake, which as well as stunning critics with its blend of kick ass rock 'n' roll and powerful songwriting, featured actor-turned-guest-guitarist Johnny Depp on "That Woman's Got Me Drinking." Depp also directed the song's video in which he starred as a disgruntled, drunken lover and Shane a disapproving bartender. The album additionally features members of The Dubliners, Thin Lizzy, and The Pogues plus duets with Sinead O'Connor on "Haunted" and Maire Brennan on "You're The One," the latter oozing from the silver screen as the theme song for the 1995 film, Circle of Friends.
