Stan Getz Stan Getz In Stockholm on 180g Import LP
Stan Getz In Stockholm is a dynamic date the great tenor saxophonist recorded for Norman Granz's Verve label in December 1955 after a debilitating illness. With apt support from a Swedish trio comprised of Bengt Hallberg (piano), Gunnar Johnson (bass) and Anders Burman (drums), Getz and company offer up a compelling 8-track program of standards, ballads and uptempo bop, all driven by the warm and lyrical playing of the quartet's marquee member. The group sets the pace wonderfully here with exquisite ballad material like "Without a Song," "I Don't Stand a Ghost of a Chance with You," "Everything Happens to Me" and "Over the Rainbow" before ending the proceedings on a high note with the energetic numbers "Get Happy" and "Jeepers Creepers."
