The English Beat I Just Can't Stop It on Limited Edition 180g Import LP + Download
In the early 1980s, many bands began borrowing styles initially made popular in other regions of the world, spicing their own sound up with exotic textures and foreign rhythms. Few groups perfected the mix-and-match hybrid with more everlasting appeal and contagious melodicism than the multi-cultural ensemble The English Beat.
The band crossed over fluidly between soul, reggae, pop and punk, and from these disparate pieces they created an infectious dance rhythm. Along with their contemporaries The Specials, The Selecter and Madness, the band became an overnight sensation and one of the most popular and influential bands of the British 2-Tone ska movement.
It all started with the English Beat's unforgettable 1980 debut I Just Can't Stop It which was produced by Bob Sargeant and climbed to No. 3 on the U.K. charts thanks to the big hit singles "Mirror in the Bathroom" and "Hands Off She's Mine" and further standout fare like "Two Swords," "Twist and Crawl," "Big Shot," "Best Friend" and "Jackpot."
