The Four Tops Reach Out on Limited Edition Import 180g LP
Four powerful voices – Levi Stubbs, Abdul “Duke” Fakir, Renaldo “Obie” Benson and Lawrence Payton – performed together for more than four decades, building their harmonies, chart-topping songs and success on the foundation of a friendship that began as teenagers. The Four Tops started out as a supper-club act before signing to Motown Records in 1963. By the end of the decade, they had over a dozen hits. The group was elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999 and have sold over 50 million records worldwide.
1967's Reach Out defined the sound of young America – exactly the credo of Berry Gordy's Motown Records. The Holland-Dozier-Holland produced album is home to six Top 20 singles including the #1 hit "Reach Out I'll Be There," "Standing in the Shadows of Love," "Bernadette," and "7-Rooms of Gloom," along with their famous covers of Tim Hardin's "If I Were a Carpenter" and the Left Banke's "Walk Away Renée." In addition to all the hits, the 12-song set also features additional covers of the Monkees' "I'm A Believer" (originally written by Neil Diamond) and Smokey Robinson's "Wonderful Baby." Reach Out truly has it all: the label, the production team, the singers and the songs. A true soul classic!
