Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here Symphonic on 180g LP
Decca Classics Presents a New Symphonic Version of Pink Floyd's Classic 1975 Album!
Featuring the London Orion Orchestra with Conductor/Arranger Peter Scholes Plus Alice Cooper, Rick Wakeman, Dave Fowler & Stephen McElroy
Rock icon Alice Cooper and the legendary Rick Wakeman are among the famous guest performers on Decca Classic's new symphonic version of Pink Floyd's legendary 1975 concept album and Syd Barrett tribute Wish You Were Here, released just in time to mark its 40th anniversary.
The London Orion Orchestra were joined by Dave Fowler and Steve McElroy from the Australian Pink Floyd Show to record Wish You Were Here Symphonic, a project produced and masterminded by Pete Smith, working with New Zealand conductor, Peter Scholes, who arranged the tracks and conducted the recording. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered at the world renown Abbey Road Studios where Pink Floyd recorded the original Wish You Were Here.
Wish You Were Here is the second Pink Floyd album to use a conceptual theme written entirely by Roger Waters. The title song, written as tribute to founding bandmate Syd Barrett and his mental breakdown, is sung here by Alice Cooper, who toured with Pink Floyd whilst Syd was still in the band in the late 60s. A must have for every Pink Floyd fan and classical music enthusiast alike.
"Wish You Were Here transfers fairly smoothly to orchestral instrumentation, particularly the centrepiece "Shine On You Crazy Diamond"...Opening with tinkling glockenspiel and strings, with high horns presaging the entrance of the four-note electric guitar motif, it's actually quite moving." - Independent (London)
