The Smashing Pumpkins Monuments To An Elegy on 180g LP + Download
The Smashing Pumpkins have created one of the most acclaimed bodies of work in musical history, selling in excess of 30 million albums while taking home multiple Grammy Awards along the way. The pivotal group's many hits helped define the alternative music era and continues to resonate with a whole new generation of fans and bands alike.
Formed in Chicago in 1988, they released Gish, their influential and platinum debut in 1991, followed by albums including the 4x platinum Siamese Dream, the 9x platinum Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness as well as the platinum certified 1998 album Adore. In June 2012, the band released the critically acclaimed album Oceania which entered the Billboard Top 200 at #4; earned the #1 spot on the Independent Albums Chart; and Rolling Stone hailed as one of the best albums of the year.
The Pumpkins are now set to release two albums within a year of each other starting with Monuments To An Elegy in December 2014 and followed by Day For Night in 2015. Billy Corgan says, "For those interested in sound, think: guitars, guitars, guitars, and more guitars but more so on the epic side of things than say, grossly metallic. Manning the boards is producer Howard Willing, with whom I first had the pleasure of working with during the Adore sessions."
Monuments To An Elegy is preceded by the album's first two singles "Being Beige" and "One and All" plus the recently unveiled opener "Tiberius" which Noisey declared “sounds like a return to form - a nod to the beloved Pumpkins sound of old with a modern twist.” Playing drums throughout the album is Tommy Lee. Monuments to an Elegy is “an album within an album,” part of their ongoing work-in-progress Teargarden By Kaleidyscope (with Day For Night serving as the project’s last work).
