Toujours Chic! - Various Artists on Limited Edition Import Colored 180g LP
Experience the Cool Sounds of 1960s France on Another Hand-Picked Collection of Groovy Gallic Girl-Pop!
The third volume in Ace Records' popular series spotlighting the female singers of 1960s France, Toujours Chic! is available in a twelve-track vinyl edition with a gorgeous cover photo of Françoise Hardy. Pressed on 180g colored vinyl with a fully illustrated inner bag.
Star of the show is series debutante Laura Ulmer. Also new to the series are Fabienne with a cool jazz-tinged number, "it girl" Zouzou with a Marianne Faithfull-influenced folk rock tune, Charlotte Walters with her esoteric cult favorite "Angel Of Sin, and Brian Jones lookalike Stone with a pop-psych nugget.
Girl-pop buffs with a penchant for psychedelia should dig Delphine's "Les Prisons De Sa Majesté" with its prominent sitar, while those who prefer their yé-yé more traditional might go for "La Guerre Des Chansons" by France Gall or Sheila's "A La Fin De La Soirée," her cover of the Exciters' "We Were Lovers (When The Party Began)." Other highlights include Annie Philippe's terrific "Pour La Gloire," and Pussycat's Spectoresque "Cette Nuit."
