Description

March 16-20, 1992 is the third release from alt-country pioneers Uncle Tupelo, named in reference to the five-day span in which the album was recorded. Produced by R.E.M.'s Peter Buck at John Keene Studios in Athens, GA, the almost entirely acoustic 15-song set is split equally between material written by Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy and traditional Appalachian folk songs. Although the album's originals offer up early warnings of the growing differences between the two gifted songwriters with Farrar's earnest fare and Tweedy's more nihilistic leanings, the pristine sounding March 16-20, 1992 single-handedly re-energized rock's return to traditional country origins and forever solidified Uncle Tupelo as the boldest and brightest purveyors of the alt-country movement.
