Vinyl Williams Into on LP
Lionel Williams aka Vinyl Williams is a Los Angeles based artist and musician. His collage art and psyche-pop music fuses vast landscapes, multi-religious symbolism, and the supernatural into a paradoxical whirlpool of "mysticism and sonic matrices."
Williams explains: "I’d like to think I’m from space — not just outer space. I’m from Los Angeles, actually, a place with no space. I feel like I’m merely dangling in the fantasy of divine things, magic things. This may be the essence of what some people call surreal. I create surreal art — collages and ambient rock music — that incorporates religious imagery, mystical sensationalism, sacred locations and some psychedelic concepts. I could describe it as sacred- magic-mystical-psychedelic-religious-collage art. I’m influenced by the Middle East, specifically Egypt, Israel and Turkey, and I attempt to fuse the archaic forms of art and music indigenous to those places, while simultaneously achieving a modern aesthetic.”
He issued his debut album Lemniscate in 2012 which united these themes into a space cruisin' journey through the tropics of the mind. On the surface his music is a flood of ideas and imagery, dashing psyched-out space-rock with layers of kraut and shoegaze. Vinyl Williams returns in 2015 with his second studio effort entitled Into.
