The Wailing Souls On The Rocks on LP
Legendary reggae roots originators The Wailing Souls date back to the late 1960s. Vocally trained by Bob Marley and the Wailers' teacher, Joe Higgs, the group fused the harmonies of Motown with the roots and dancehall sounds of reggae, working with iconic producers like Coxson Dodd, Henry 'Junjo' Lawes, Channel One Studios, Delroy Wright, King' Jammy's, as well as recording several early tunes at Tuff Gong Studio. In other words, The Wailing Souls' recording career has been nothing short of historic.
The Wailing Souls followed-up their back to back Henry "Junjo" Lawes-produced classics Fire House Rock (1981) and Inchpinchers (1982) with On The Rocks in 1983. Although Channel One studio stalwarts The Roots Radics once again provide the backing, the band decided to produce the 10-track effort themselves for the first time. Despite the change in approach, their unrivaled run of true roots reggae brilliance continues here and Sly & Robbie even step in on the hit "Sticky Stay."
