New Edition is an American R&B and pop group that was formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1978. The original members included Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, and Ralph Tresvant. They rose to fame in the 1980s with hits like "Candy Girl," "Cool It Now," and "Mr. Telephone Man." The group is often credited with pioneering the boy band movement of the 1980s and 1990s. Bobby Brown left the group in 1985 to pursue a solo career and was replaced by Johnny Gill. Despite lineup changes, solo ventures, and periodic breakups, New Edition has continued to reunite and perform, maintaining a legacy as one of the most influential R&B groups in music history.
