After exploding onto the Jamaican music scene in the early ‘60s, the trio of Frederick ‘Toots' Hibbert, Nathaniel ‘Gerry' McCarthy and Henry ‘Raleigh' Gordon - collectively known as the Maytals - established themselves as one of the island's leading acts with a series of ska hits for a number of local record producers. 1976's seminal Otis Redding-influenced Reggae Got Soul was commandeered by Island Records-founder Chris Blackwell and Joe Boyd and is heartfelt, harmonious and powerful in all the right places!
