Audiolab - D7 DAC & Headphone Amplifier
Full Details
Compact, Versatile, and Uncompromising in Its Class: Audiolab D7 DAC and Headphone Amplifier Includes ESS9038Q2M Chipset, Abundant Connectivity, Five Filters, OLED Display, and aptX Bluetooth Capability
Discover what's available in terms of performance, engineering, build, and functionality at the under-$1k price point with the Audiolab D7 DAC and headphone amplifier. The recipient of a rave review from What Hi-Fi?, the tabletop D7 plays with exceptional clarity, ultra-low noise, and a high dynamic range. Able to support up to DSD512 and 32-bit/768kHz PCM via USB, D7 also serves as a full MQA decoder that offers the complete internal "three unfold" process. And its on-board headphone amplifier with current-feedback circuitry means you can count on transparency, focus, and immediacy when you listen in private.
Housed in a compact aluminum chassis with a front-panel OLED display and two handsome rotary knobs, the 3.13-pound D7 is fueled by an ESS9038Q2M chipset accompanied by proprietary circuitry that optimizes the ESS HyperStream II architecture and Time Domain Jitter Eliminator. Another bonus: A Class A post-DAC active filter. Plus, you can opt to upsample digital audio signals to 352.8kHz or 384kHz, while five reconstruction filter settings invite you to adjust the sound to best match your source files or system components.
Despite its size, D7 comes loaded with an abundance of connectivity. To wit: Two coaxial and two optical inputs, a USB HDD input for external flash drives, and a USB-B input for PCs, Macs, smartphones, and/or tablets. Coaxial, optical, and analog RCA and fully balanced XLR outputs further affirm its status as a serious digital hub. Need Bluetooth? It's here, too, with support for multiple codecs, including aptX HD and Bluetooth 5.1.
Sold with a remote control and three-year manufacturer warranty, D7 proves remarkable high-end digital doesn't need to cost a fortune.
"If you are looking for a well-specified and talented outboard DAC at this level, it would be remiss if you didn’t consider this one seriously."
