A Legacy of Excellence, Enhanced: Klipsch La Scala AL6 Floor-Standing Speakers Feature Three-Way Fully Loaded Horn System, Updated Drivers, and Extreme Efficiency
Make way for the U.S.A.-made Klipsch La Scala AL6 floor-standing loudspeakers. No, seriously. Make way. Measuring 39.15 inches tall, 24.5 inches wide, and 25.3 inches deep, each of these "Mini-Klipschorns" weighs 205 pounds and requires approximately a two-by-two-feet space in your room. But once you clear the space, you'll forever be glad you did. The three-way fully horn-loaded La Scala AL6 provides extreme sonic thrills by way of immense highs, incredibly robust output, and exceptionally lively low-distortion playback.
Originally devised in 1963 as a public-address speaker for a gubernatorial candidate in company founder Paul Klipsch's home state of Arkansas, La Scala soon became adopted by discerning music listeners who fell under the spell of its pro-quality sonics. Specifically, stellar detail retrieval, see-through clarity, and the effortless ability to play loud.
Boasting incredibly high sensitivity (103dB), the AL6 iteration of La Scala is engineered to seamlessly work with the optional Klipsch Heritage Active Crossover to achieve standard-setting balance and precision. If you choose to operate AL6 with its own internal crossover, rest assured Klipsch also upgraded it for stellar performance. But it isn’t anywhere nearly as exciting as the driver complement.
Coupled to a new K-406M Tractrix midrange horn with Mumps technology, the brand-new three-inch K-1133-HP midrange compression driver supplies incredible sound pressure to the horn’s throat for voluptuous levels of energy. This revised combination means AL6 provides more coverage, presence, consistency, and precision than any prior iteration of La Scala. To handle the high frequencies, a K-771 compression driver with a patented extended phase plug is mated to a K-792 horn to effectively prevent cancellations and equalize wavelengths for clean dispersion. For probing bass, AK7 turns to a K-281 12-inch woofer in a horn-loaded vented system — a first for La Scala.
On the exterior, La Scala AL6 features high-frequency cabinets that are one-inch thick, ensuring a rigid enclosure that reduces resonance while creating a waterfall appearance in the vertical grain-matched wood veneers between the high- and low-frequency cabinets. Like those on all Klipsch Heritage Series models, the book-matched wood veneers allow each La Scala AL6 to look exactly like the other — and contribute visual consistency to your decor. A retro-style silver metallic grille and a nostalgic script cast zinc logo complete the look. Another bonus: A redesigned input/output panel located on the rear of the speaker. It includes passive and active inputs, and a passive output, making switching between setups a veritable breeze.
If you're ready to experience one of the most distinctive-looking and -sounding speakers ever created — and one that has immensely contributed to American high-end audio history — simply select the finish you desire. Klipsch's 10-year warranty does the rest.
"It makes music a living, breathing, tactile entity that has you on the edge of your seat, transfixed. It's also surprisingly civilized for a large horn speaker, making it acceptable to a wider audience than you'd think. An audition is highly recommended then, if your room matches your ambitions!"
—Hi-Fi News, Outstanding Product review
"It's hugely dramatic and visceral, with a physical sense of the music meeting you in space and time. This isn't about reclining back in your sofa with a glass of whiskey and water, because this speaker pins you to your seat — yet you can do nothing except sit up and listen."
—Stereonet, Applause Award
Three-Way, Horn-Loaded Efficiency
La Scala’s three-way, horn-loaded system delivers exceptional efficiency. For AL6, each driver is coupled to a precisely measured horn and optimized for one of three pass-bands. This design generates greater acoustic power with less wattage, producing crystal clear sound with minimal distortion across the frequency spectrum.
Extended Phase Plug for Highs
The K-771 compression driver is paired with a new, patented, extended phase plug to prevent cancellations and equalize wavelengths for cleaner dispersion. That means you get more coverage and clarity.
Three-Inch Compression Driver Delivers Power
The new, midrange K-1133-HP compression driver adds a full inch to the drivers on previous AL5 models. The larger compression area increases sound pressure to the horn’s throat for more voluptuous volume.
Spread the Soundstage with Mumps and Tractrix
AL6 gets the Tractrix treatment. Compared to what was in the AL5, the new K-406M patented Tractrix midrange horn features a shorter, two-inch throat for unparalleled presence and precision. Mumps technology improves coverage, adding small contours to help maintain frequency response to the horn’s edge.
Shake the Bass
For the first time, La Scala upgrades to a patented horn loaded, vented system, maximizing efficiency, extending output, and lowering distortion – realizing the benefits of both a horn-loaded system and a bass reflex system. The K-281 12-inch woofer with folded horn sits comfortably in a new enclosure, producing richer and more robust bass from any room placement.
Get a Big Boost with the Heritage Active Crossover
Users have the option to add the Heritage Active Crossover tuned specifically for the La Scala speakers. Trickle-down technology from Klipsch’s heralded Jubilee floorstanding speakers, the Heritage Active DSP aligns time and phase while boosting frequencies and balancing EQ for a flat, color-free response.
