SUN RECORDS

Founded in Memphis by Sam Phillips in 1952, today Sun Records has the motto "Where Rock 'n' Roll Was Born." As any rock historian can tell you, among the early stars at Sun were Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash. In 1969, Sun executive Shelby Singleton acquired the labels Red Bird and Blue Cat, expanding Sun's artistic horizons. Over the decades, the Sun roster has included works by a diverse array of amazing musicians, including Roy Orbison, Bettye LaVette, T-Bone Walker, Jeannie C. Riley, Dave Dudley, Linda Martell, Johnny Adams, Van McCoy, The Ad Libs, and The Dixie Cups.

To celebrate the label's 70th anniversary, the team at Sun Records has created an indispensable compilation spotlighting some world-famous classics, including tracks by Johnny Cash ("I Walk the Line"), Jerry Lee Lewis ("Great Balls of Fire"), Carl Perkins ("Blue Suede Shoes"), Jeannie C. Riley ("Harper Valley P.T.A.), and The Dixie Cups ("Chapel Of Love"). This 180g LP also includes transcendent, underappreciated gems, like Bettye LaVette's soulful rendition of "Let Me Down Easy."
