The front of the Advance Paris A12 Classic integrated amplifier tells you most everything you need to know about this giant-killing component. A pair of VU meters bookends a pair of 12AT7 tubes, while underneath, three elegant control knobs and two digital displays convey the hybrid design that helps this flagship 39.4-pound unit literally sing. Offering a strapping 190Wpc, A12 Classic pairs preamplification warmth with modern features and powerful output that comfortably drives most speakers.
Bolstered by dual-mono architecture that includes two toroidal transformers, the super-quiet A12 Classic contains practically every option and connection any serious music lover needs. Two HDMI inputs (Audio and ARC), an MM/MC phonostage, five RCA inputs, and two pairs of balanced XLR inputs invite you to hook up an armada of gear. Three coaxial and optical inputs, plus an AES/EBU input, USB-A input and USB-B XMOS input add to the versatility. Ditto two trigger outputs, an XLR pre-out, and two subwoofer outputs complete with bass management switches. If you want wireless Bluetooth ability, a proprietary port syncs with the Advance Paris X-FTB801 module ($169).
A12 Classic welcomes you to connect two different pairs of speakers via its Zone A and B terminals. Got headphones? A12 Classic covers those bases, too, with two separate inputs jazzed up with gain and impedance control. You also can set A12 Classic in high bias mode for sonics on par with that of a Class A amplifier on the first watts of use.
