Michi X3 Series 2 Integrated Amplifier
Full Details
Embrace the "Goldilocks Principle" with the Michi X3 Series 2: Exceptionally Built Integrated Amplifier Features Custom Toroidal Transformers, Analog and Digital Flexibility, ESS SABRE ES9028PRO DAC, and Much More
If you've been hunting for a high-end integrated amplifier that meets the "Goldilocks principle" of being just right, the Michi X3 Series 2 could well represent the end of your search. Extremely similar to its bigger sibling, X5 Series 2, this Class AB pro primarily differs from it in terms of weight (less), height (shorter), one less analog input, the absence of MC phono capability, a handful of internal changes, and slightly less power output that still registers at a robust 200Wpc into eight ohms (350Wpc into four ohms).
While those details may make it seem like you might be compromising, X3 Series 2 ensures you'll do anything but. Particularly since it is the end result of a team of British and Japanese engineers who worked without the pressures of a deadline to ensure everything, from the circuitry to the audio path, stands up to separates that would cost you far more. (And take up more room.)
Able to seamlessly fit into most spaces, the 63.7-pound X3 Series 2 uses shielded, in-house-manufactured, low-noise, toroidal transformers to power isolated digital, analog, and high current amplifier circuits. Such architecture results in a supremely low noise floor and excellent control — as well as pleasing finesse, clarity, and dynamics. Also inside? An ESS SABRE ES9028PRO eight-channel DAC that dedicates four channels each to the left and right signals, accounting for superb timing and massive soundstages.
When it comes to hooking up gear to the Roon-tested X3 Series 2, you’re covered. XLR balanced and analog RCA inputs, an MM phonostage, plus seven digital inputs that extend to aptX HD Wireless Bluetooth, coaxial, and optical invite you to go to town. The PC-USB input supports up to 32-bit/384kHz and DSD 11.2MHz. Full MQA decoding is also here. Ditto a front-panel 6.35mm headphone input for private listening sessions.
Recognizing the importance of versatility as many users' needs will differ, X3 Series 2 also comes with pre-amp outputs, dual-mono subwoofer outputs, IP and RS232 control ports, and two 12V trigger outputs that speak to its ability to grow with your setup. Two sets of dual five-way Michi-designed platinum-plated binding posts that welcome bi-wiring complete the rear panel.
A visual stunner, X3 Series 2 sports a sleek aluminum chassis with an elegant dark-black glass front panel and clean lines. On the dimmable TFT high-res display, you can choose to view a peak power meter or spectrum analyzer during listening sessions. A remote control and five-year manufacturer warranty round out this one-box dynamo.

"[The] X3 S2 is a steal, delivering such scintillating performance that if you're considering a 'big integrated', or even a pre/power this side of five figures, then it's a must-listen — you're going to love it!"
