Here's what one needs to know about this absolutely essential SACD: Heralded across the world for its lifelike presence, warm and smooth balances, and spectacular low-frequency dynamics, this Analogue Productions reissue of this masterwork will both challenge the limits of any system, no matter the cost. Better still, it will bring to life the thrilling performance of a lifetime given by Donald Johanos and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra as if one is sitting just ten rows back in the concert hall. For aficionados of the finest sound, and all types of music fanatics, it simply doesn't get any better.

Mastered by Kevin Gray from the Original Vox Turnabout master tapes, this hybrid SACD will reward listeners for a lifetime by not only increasing the intimacy with which they experience this gloriously sweeping, traditional folk-referencing music but also patting them on the back for investing in high-fidelity equipment. Whether it's the pinpoint timbral accuracy, dry and clear aesthetics, or seemingly unlimited frequency ranges, it will cause you to press "repeat" for hours.

The appeal goes beyond great sound and classical boundaries. Symphonic Dances And Vocalise thrives on accessible variety, its tuneful magnetism and rhythmic palette crossing borders and inviting listeners that normally don't enjoy classical to become caught up in its majestic webs of colors, textures, and compositional devices. Strings, horns, woodwinds, horns, and all matter of percussion navigate vital harmonic shifts and imaginative rhythms. This is classical music that, as suggested by the title, dances.

And about the recording process itself. As stated in the original liner notes, ""The tape recording was made at a speed of 30 inches-per-second, using a transport modified to produce exceptionally good motion: a specially developed constant-velocity recording curve was employed for improved signal-to-noise ratio. The lacquer masters were made directly from the original tape, thus avoiding further transfer degradation. The result is a recording of exceptional clarity, naturalness and freedom from vices prevalent generally in the art."

Indeed. This is what the audiophile hobby and life-changing music are all about. Do not miss this wallopingly fantastic release.
