Jan Lisiecki Preludes on 2LP

The Canadian star pianist Jan Lisiecki lets the diverse sounds of the fantasy-like instrumental work of the prelude shine on his new album and shows that it is much more than just a prelude to something else. Frédéric Chopin's extraordinary 24 Préludes op. 28 are the inspiration and starting point for this recording. According to Lisiecki, Chopin was a "master of the short form" who "brought the prelude out of the shadows and into the spotlight". Chopin's pieces are combined and contrasted with selected preludes by other composers from over three eras, each of which marks a high point in the history of the genre - from Bach, Messiaen, Rachmaninoff to Górecki. Lisiecki wants to "show the diverse possibilities of the modest prelude" and takes "the audience on a musical journey of discovery" through the cosmos of these varied miniatures.
