Full Details

Featuring the singles "Toxic," "Everybody Business" and "F&MU," It Was Good Until It Wasn't is Grammy-nominated R&B star Kehlani's second full-length album, following 2017's SweetSexySavage, which bowed at No. 3 on the Billboard Top 200 and eventually went gold. "It's definitely my most mature body of work. It's super honest. It's darker. Whereas a lot of my earlier projects were very bright, It Was Good Until It Wasn't is sexier," says Kehlani. "When you're a musician, you come from real experience. No matter what the experience is, it's going to transfer to the music. Having a baby helped me be a lot more womanly and ‘Adult'. The music is more meaningful. My daughter is the biggest indirect influence on everything I do. If it sounds grown-up, it's because of her." The album artwork was done in Kehlani's signature DIY "quarantine-style." "The album cover is a depiction of the never-ending duality of ‘good' and ‘bad.' It's a tale of perspective," she adds. "The sun is shining, the sky is blue, but clearly something has gotten my attention. Paired with the back cover, we come into the question of is the grass really greener on the other side? Good things are good...until they aren't. Then, were they ever really good?"
