Based on William Goldman's novel of the same name, Rob Reiner's 1987 cult classic film adaptation of The Princess Bride is staged as a book read by grandfather (Peter Falk) to his ill grandson (Fred Savage). Falk's character assures a romance-weary Savage that the book has much more to deliver than a simpering love story, including but not limited to fencing, fighting, torture, death, true love, giants, and pirates. Awash in a synthesized warmth and dreamlike quality befitting the fairy tale element of the film, the moving soundtrack features music arranged and composed by Mark Knopfler including "Storybook Love," which was nominated for a 1988 Academy Award for Best Original Song. Reiner noted that, "only Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits could create a soundtrack to capture the film's quirky yet romantic nature."
