Onyx is an American hip hop group formed in 1988 in Queens, New York. The group is known for its raw, aggressive style and hardcore, gritty sound, which helped define East Coast hip hop in the 1990s. Onyx was originally composed of Sticky Fingaz, Fredro Starr, Sonny Seeza, and Big DS (who left the group in the late '90s). Their debut album, Bacdafucup (1993), became a landmark in hip hop, featuring the hit single "Slam," which became a club anthem and earned the group widespread recognition.
