Full Details

Recording both as Parliament and Funkadelic, George Clinton revolutionized R&B during the 1970s, twisting soul music into funk by adding influences from several late-'60s acid heroes: Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, and Sly Stone. The Parliament/Funkadelic machine ruled black music throughout the '70s, capturing over 40 R&B hit singles (including three No. 1's) and recording three platinum albums.

The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein is Clinton and company's gold-certified 1976 sci-fi concept album. Per usual Parliament, the grooves are funky and the overall feel of the album is fun and totally tongue-in-cheek. While most tracks are pure trashy funk, there's a Barry White-esque slow jam and horn arrangements courtesy of ex-James Brown band member Fred Wesley to round out the album's evocative sound. Featuring the charting singles "Do That Stuff" and "Dr. Funkenstein."
