If there's one band that sums up guitar virtuosos with vocal inspiration and a blues rhythm section straight from the speakeasy London sound of Alexis Korner's Blues Inc., then it is certainly Pentangle. The ineffable Bert Jansch and John Renbourn on guitars, the subtle singing of Jacqui McShee and the jazz blues oriented drum and bass of Terry Cox and Danny Thompson made Pentangle one of the most enjoyable folk rock groups of all time. Their dazzling 1968 debut The Pentangle, brought together their separate influences of folk, jazz, blues, early music and contemporary songwriting beautifully and it stands as one of the group's most commercially successful, reaching No. 21 in the British charts.
