Pure to the Core: All-Analog Rega AOS MC Phono Preamplifier Operates with Exceptional Sound and Features Fully Adjustable Loading, Half-Width Case, and Lifetime Manufacturer Warranty

If you primarily or exclusively use moving-coil phono cartridges, the fully adjustable Rega AOS MC phono preamplifier needs to enter your radar. And how.

A two-stage all-analog amplifier with no digital control circuitry or extraneous components, the 6.4-pound AOS is heavily based on Rega's reference flagship phonostage, Aura. Like the latter, this British-made beauty reliably delivers wondrous definition, exceptional detail, delicate nuance, and the sought-after warmth and realism for which vinyl is renowned. If you've never experienced what a standalone phono preamplifier can do, particularly one as well-built and -devised as AOS, prepare to be transfixed. The fact it comes with a lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects should make your decision to get it even easier.

Ditto its flexibility. The MC input has the provision for selecting resistive input loading of 70 ohms to 400 ohms, and capacitive loading of 1000 pF to 4300 pF. You can change the input sensitivity by 6dB via the back panel. If you own a Rega MC cartridge or plan on getting one, AOS has already done the work for you via factory pre-set settings for all Rega MC models. To conserve energy and wear-and-tear, an automatic standby feature — which can be deactivated by way of rear-panel dip switches — puts AOS to sleep after a period of no signal.

The internal layout of AOS attests to its sonic brilliance. The first stage is a symmetrical, complementary class A amplifier that uses Linear Systems ultra-low noise FET (Field Effect Transistor) transistors. That approach ensures no bias current flows in the cartridge coil so as not to upset its delicate magnetic geometry. The input circuit configuration also alleviates the use of any coupling components between the cartridge output and the input-stage FET transistors, which would degrade the fidelity. In sum, the first stage drives the passive high-frequency part of the RIAA equalization stage. The second stage is a symmetrical, Class A, differential amplifier with a common base driver stage. It is also used as the active amplifier in the low-frequency part of the RIAA equalization stage.

Housed in a custom half-width aluminum case and complemented by vibration-defeating feet, the 3.15 x 8.66 x 12.99-inch (HWD) AOS is purist-based analog to the core. Learn more about AOS and any of Rega's other fantastic components on our website or by calling us at 312-433-0200.
