Drive Any Moderate-Sized Home Theater: Outlaw Audio Model 5000x Five-Channel Power Amplifier Supplies a Real-World 120Wpc Output, Plays with Neutrality, Efficiency, Clarity, and Punch

Would you rather pay more for a brand name or pay less, and get the same if not better quality? That’s the essential question posed by the Outlaw Audio Model 5000x five-channel power amplifier, which provides enough oomph and drivability to pleasingly handle moderate-sized home theaters and their multichannel needs.

Providing a real-world 120Wpc output into all five channels (or 180Wpc into four ohms), this 5.82 x 17.0 x 16.75-inch (HWD) unit plays with neutrality, efficiency, clarity, accuracy, and liveliness. Low total harmonic distortion (less than 0.05%) and a fine 111dB A-weighted signal-to-noise ratio speak to its high-end performance abilities. Ditto four 6,800uF capacities per channel filter capacitance. You’ll enjoy sound that is dynamic, spacious, and direct.

Inside, a custom high-current power supply driven by a 2.1 KVA toroidal transformer complements four discrete output devices for each channel, all guarded by a protection circuit. In addition to a balanced input stage with common-mode rejection that laughs at EMI and RFI issues, Model 5000x also has a differential-sensing RCA circuit to defeat input hum. Speaking of inputs, you get both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA types to sync to whatever setup you have now — or might in the future.

Contained in a metal chassis with a brushed aluminum faceplate adorned by a single LED indicator, the 49-pound Model 5000x includes meshed vents on the top and side panels — a smart touch that, in combination with the passive heat sinks on each channel, lets it run cool. A remote trigger switch, chassis ground, and AC fuse, along with five robust speaker terminals, completes the back panel.
