Trust Your Analog Playback to a Legend: Technics SL-1210ME Grand Master Edition Direct Drive Turntable Offers Reference-Class Stability and Smoothness, Plus Irresistible Looks and Adjustment Options
If you’ve ever dreamed of getting a Technics turntable yet never pulled the trigger, now’s the time. The final version of the company’s revered SL-1200G/1210GS series and a model limited in production — a fact commemorated on the name plate on the chassis — the Master Edition direct-drive SL-1210GME system operates with reference-class stability, super-accurate rotation, exceptional smoothness, and terrific quiet. This is a component you’ll cherish for years to come, one that will spoil you with tremendous vinyl playback.
Featuring a new twin-rotor coreless direct-drive motor, vibration-suppressing ΔΣ-Drive, high-damping silicon insulators with shock-absorbing aGEL, gold-painted magnesium gimbal-suspension tonearm, and a resonance-resistant structure with three-layer platter and four-layer cabinet, the 6.8 x 17.8 x 14.6-inch (HWD) SL-1210GME is engineered to eliminate cogging, maintains super-high torque levels, and reduces bearing-load vibrations. Its coil mounting base uses the same reinforcement pattern as Technics' $27k Reference Class SL-1000R/SP-10R for enhanced rigidity. And its aforementioned platter combines brass, aluminum, and deadening rubber to deliver inertial mass and rotational solidity.
Adjusted at the factory with specialized high-precision balance adjustment equipment, each item of the turntable assembly is thoroughly checked to ensure evenness to ensure their optimal sonic properties and integration into the whole. Topping it off, literally and figuratively: A hairline-processed, 10mm-thick aluminum top panel that complements a three-layered construction of aluminum die-cast, BMC, and heavyweight-class rubber.
Inside, the layout claims a high-speed multi-stage switching power supply (more than 100kHz) for stable output, low ripple, and minimized vibration. Noise detection and error amp technology cancel residual noise via inverse current, and a four-layer PCB separates the power and ground lines for motor, digital, and LED circuits. As for that ΔΣ-Drive? It elevates PWM from 2kHz to more than 20kHz, lessening noise and micro-vibrations to preserve precision, detail, and texture.
Looking as fantastic as it performs, the 39.7-pound SL-1210GME also boasts a simple interface with push-button stop/start, push-button 33, 45, and 78RPM speed selection, and Technics' signature strobe light and pitch range adjuster. Anti-skate, arm height and balance control, and the option to alter the 'table's startup/brake speed are all here, too. Ditto an EP record adapter and dust cover. All you really need to do is decide if you want silver or black, and grab one of these units before they're gone.
