Guest, the debut studio album by Seattle instrumental outfit Critters Buggin, captures the band’s early mind-blowing collision of jazz, rock, and funk with adventurous, improvisational energy.

Featuring drummer Matt Chamberlain, saxophonist Skerik, bassist Brad Houser, and percussionist John Bush alongside select contributors, the 1994 release showcases the groove-forward rhythms and intrepid interplay that became a hallmark of their sound.

"We were recording in Stone Gossard's basement, it was a recently soundproofed big room, and had a tiny control room with a 24 track 2" machine, console, and some basic outboard gear. We would go in and improvise for hours, and then pick the good stuff," recounts Skerik. "Editing was done on new-ish software called Pro Tools or Sound Tools, only two or four tracks, doing a simple crossfade took forever to render, so we smoked a lot of hash waiting for the edits to happen. Stone had a guitar laying around, I picked it up and started tapping on it, that made it on the record as well. Lots of experimenting and editing. Teo Macero meets Jim Woodring!"

Originally released on Stone Gossard’s Loosegroove label and now available on collectible vinyl, Guest remains a cult favorite for fans of boundary-pushing instrumental music.
