Eddie Harris The Electrifying Eddie Harris on 180g Import LP. Remastered Using Pure Analogue Components Only, From the Master Tapes Through to the Cutting Head.

The composer, tenor saxophonist and keyboarder Eddie Harris (1934–1996) is considered as a pioneer of instrumental innovations and an accomplished musician. His first jazz album, "Exodus to Jazz" attained gold status, and the later "Swiss Movement" (Atlantic SD-1537), recorded together with Les McCann, was one of the best-selling albums in the history of jazz.

With his move to Atlantic Records in 1965, Harris began to experiment with the electric piano and saxophone, whereby the latter instrument was very much in the foreground in his 1967 release, "The Electrifying Eddie Harris." The album became one of Harris’s most famous and important release and shows his mastery of the electronic Varitone saxophone in "Theme in Search of a Movie" and particularly on his hit version and single release of "Listen Here." A slow smoldering groove which remains just under the boiling point distinguishes such spirited, funky numbers as "Sham Time," and more gentle ballads like "Judie’s Theme" and "I Don’t Want No One But You."

The basic rhythm group, made up of the pianist Jodie Christian, bassist Melvin Jackson, and the drummer Richard Smith, builds the foundation for the climax of the album, namely the lengthy "Spanish Bull," with its funky, syncopated rhythm in an energy-driven and fiery performance by Harris. This album is a first-class issue from beginning to end and an important component of jazz history.
