Marshall Crenshaw's From the Hellhole is a 14-track collection of handpicked, remixed, and remastered songs featuring tracks from a series of EPs along with several rare deep cuts. Recorded in Marshall Crenshaw's home studio, affectionately dubbed "The Hellhole," the collection spans the last two decades. The three-sided LP is pressed on colored vinyl.

Produced by Crenshaw, From the Hellhole resurrects eleven of the fourteen tracks originally issued on a series of limited edition Record Store Day vinyl EPs released between 2012 and 2016, all of which have been out of print since 2017. With rights now reverted back to Crenshaw, these recordings have been curated for what he describes as "legacy preservation" a personal mission to properly archive and reissue work that continues to resonate. The album's three additional tracks include a striking demo of 1991's "Walkin' Around," a previously unreleased version of "Never to Be Forgotten" (his tribute to the Bobby Fuller Four), and "Couldn't I Just Tell You," originally recorded for a 2022 Todd Rundgren tribute project.

Crenshaw also includes several highly personal renditions of songs that shaped him - including "(They Long to Be) Close to You," a dreamy, dub-infused homage to Karen Carpenter and the legendary Wrecking Crew; Rare Earth's "I Just Want to Celebrate"; The Move's "No Time"; and Lovin' Spoonful's "Didn't Want to Have to Do It."

"These tracks all came from a specific time and place - my studio barn in the Hudson Valley, where I recorded about 75–80% of what's on this album," says Crenshaw. "It's a collection of songs that I've always liked and wanted to get right. So I did just that - revisited each track, made new mixes, and let every song become its best possible self."
