Full Details
Sean Khan's New 2026 Studio Album We Have More Souls Than One on LP.
London born saxophonist and producer Sean Khan releases his latest album We Have More Souls Than One – featuring Brian Jackson’ on the BBE imprint. Sean is widely regarded as one of the UK’s finest saxophonists, ‘A brilliant saxophonist’ (Evening Standard), ‘A jazz power house’ (Audiophile review), and with this he reflects in his work an exquisite eclecticism having worked/played/recorded with some of the giants of Jazz and funk over his career. These include Azymuth, Hermeto Pascoal, Marcos Valle, Dexter Wansel, Omar, Peter King and many, many others.
With this record Sean somewhat returns to the roots of his youth and his early recording career, by writing and producing a neo jazz funk album full of musical gems aided and abetted by the legendary Brian Jackson (Gil Scott-Heron’s musical partner). This album examines the spectrum of dance sounds from house, hip hop, broken beat and drum and bass, each track encapsulates Sean’s unique interpretation of a particular dance sound surrounded by the atmosphere of jazz, funk and the dance sounds of his past lives.
Having begun his recording career as the leader and producer of the cult broken beat group SKradicals, this group went on to make some pivotal recordings and were involved with collaborations with leading figures from that era Bugz in the Attic, 4hero and others. With this in mind it only seemed natural that Sean would eventually return to this sound, through the acoustic prism of jazz and funk.
As Sean says ‘Brian was fundamental to this record, it was his participation that really inspired all of these compositions, even the instrumentals were he didn’t even play, I felt his natural positive energy along with his history in shaping jazz funk and spoken word, in partnership with Gil Scott-Heron, gave my spirit the energy to carry the record on to its logical conclusion. Many conversations were had between us, a sharing of ideas, chords, melodies and words, it was an uplifting experience making this record and I hope you can hear this in every track.’
Sean states that 'the dance floor is one of the last remaining democratic spaces left in Western culture' and so with this record he pays homage to what dance music has been to him in the past and present.
