A Do-It-All Hub for Music and Movies: Technics SU-GX70 Network Integrated Amplifier Blends High-End Technology, Engineering, Parts, and Convenience
Get comfortable. The Technics SU-GX70 network integrated amplifier aims to make your living room a retreat filled with both high-quality music and movies. Equipped with high-end streaming features, an HDMI ARC port, and audiophile-grade components, the 40Wpc SU-GX70 leverages the strengths of a JENO (Jitter Elimination and Noise-Shaping Optimization) Engine, twin power supply circuit system, Pure Amplification Mode, and Load Adaptive Phase Calibration to deliver exacting, emotional performance on all types of media. SU-GX70 accommodates a plethora of sources — from turntables (via an MM phonostage) to FM radio, USB-A, USB-B, and coaxial — and wirelessly plays high-res music up to DSD 256 from smartphones, tablets, and computers. Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Internet radio, TIDAL, and Spotify are also here.
Just as importantly, this 14.6-pound do-almost-everything box arrives loaded with the type of engineering and parts that make music sing. Adapted from the model used in the Technics flagship SU-R1000 amplifier, a discrete amp circuit with a symmetrical layout handles the analog input stage while low-noise FETs, thin-film resistors, film capacitors, and electrolytic capacitors help with the heavy lifting. SU-GX70 is also boosted by a dedicated, high-speed power supply for the power amplifier circuits that remains independent from all the other circuits. And that’s just the beginning.
The digital transmission system in SU-GX70 processes signals fully digitally in all stages from input to output. Compared to analog transmission, it is less susceptible to signal degradation caused by external noise, ensuring more precision and accuracy that both conveys the clarity of high-resolution audio and maintains the texture of analog recordings. When listening, you also have the option of engaging Pure Amplification Mode, which kills the power supply to the network and HDMI circuits.
Speaking of that HDMI output: For the first time in a Technics product, it includes its own JENO Engine to reduce any degradation caused by jitter during the transmission of digital audio signals. What’s more, video signals are output from SU-GX70 at a lower rate, and the digital value of the color of each pixel is set to zero — an approach that ensures low-load operation between the HDMI transmitting/receiving devices and prevents unwanted noise from the video signals.
SU-GX70 goes even further with Ideal Impulse Response through LAPC (Load Adaptive Phase Calibration), a speaker impedance algorithm that performs correction to the ideal impulse response through DSP by measuring the frequency amplitude-phase characteristics of the amplifier with the speakers connected. This technique flattens the frequency characteristics of amplitude and phase, which had previously not been achieved by amplifiers, and equates to sonics distinguished with rich spatial expressiveness.
Want more options? SU-GX70 includes “Space Tune” functionality, which enables the adjustment of sound space according to the room environment and installation location. Just download the Technics app (available for iOS devices only) or choose a setting from the four presets — “Free,” “Wall,” “Corner,” or “In a Shelf” — and you can experiment with the most suitable sound for your environment. Added convenience arrives in the form of a remote control, which completes a package whose blend of fit-and-finish, parts, and features promise to indulge you with engaging entertainment for years to come.
"I feel like this thing could drive a dump truck uphill. Both ways. In the snow. At one point I pushed the volume to -20dB just to see how my speakers would behave, and it got a little dangerous, because I wasn’t picking up on the signs of distress that let me know I’m leaning too hard on the volume knob. My ears just hurt after a while, that’s all.”

"Technics packs a great deal of tech, versatility and sonic performance into this compact, well-built Network Player that obviously benefits from the company's 'trickle down' approach to giving customers the most possible for the money spent."
