Mission Accomplished: British-Made 770 Bookshelf Loudspeakers with Stands Feature Eight-Inch Drivers and Resonance-Controlled Cabinets, Play with Deep Bass, Stunning Neutrality, Punchy Expressiveness, and Detailed Midrange

Mission accomplished, indeed. The latest iteration of one of the most iconic British bookshelf loudspeakers ever created, and one hand-made in Britain, the award-winning Mission 770 delivers warm, open, detailed, natural performance especially notable for its broad dynamics, punchy expressiveness, standout timbre, and balanced, expansive soundstaging. Spearheaded by renowned designer Peter Comeau and sold with custom stands, Mission 770 is equal parts a bang-on continuation of a proud heritage and a musical instrument that disappears into its surroundings, leaving just you and your music.

At its core, Mission 770 combines a stiff, mineral-loaded polypropylene cone driver and resonance-controlled cabinet. Built onto an eight-inch die-cast chassis with large rear "windows" that reduce early reflections, the driver mimics the extended response and low coloration of the renowned original, while an upgraded motor system accommodates modern power handling and dynamic requirements. Married to the cone, a low-density nitrile surround matches its impedance.

Exhibiting similar meticulous construction, a 1.25-inch textile soft dome treble unit, complete with a high flux ferrite magnet, provides smooth, detailed highs. It's backed by a damped rear chamber that pushes the fundamental resonance well below the crossover region. Just as importantly, the tweeter seamlessly combines with the mid/bass driver to ensure evenness of character throughout the entire range.

Comeau and team spent literally thousands of hours listening to land on a crossover that's simultaneously exciting in its presentation and organic in its rendition of source material. They tried more than 170 circuit iterations before settling on the version you'll hear in Mission 770. This circuit was mapped out onto separate bass and treble PCBs using ultra-short signal paths and high-quality components such as super-transparent polypropylene capacitors and air-core inductors. The results deliver transfixing levels of transparency.

Of course, one look at Mission 770 tells you the company paid just as much attention to the cabinetry as what's inside. Beneath the rich wood veneers resides a twin-wall sandwich of high-density MDF and particle board bonded by a layer of high-damping adhesive. The simple upshot: A cabinet with panel resonance well below audibility and that allows the drive units to operate without cabinet coloration. Internal bracing adds strength to the front baffle and braces the drive unit, creating a mechanical support that reveals hard-to-retrieve microdynamics. A layer of acoustic foam and damping fiber, strategically placed to absorb reflections inside the cabinet without overdamping the bass quality, rounds out the brilliant architecture.

Measuring 23.23 x 11.81 x 12.68 inches (HWD) and weighing 42.33 pounds a piece, Mission 770 has impressed audiophile critics on both sides of the Atlantic. And then some. If you want to hear it for yourself via a risk-free in-home audition, give us a call at 312-433-0200. We're rather convinced you'll be impressed.

Mission 770 Speaker Stands
Customized for the company's 770 bookshelf speakers, Mission 770 stands are handmade of elegant steel in Britain and built to put each 770 at the optimal listening height for enhanced imaging, accuracy, and coherence. In addition to providing stability and support, these stands also help eliminate vibration by getting your speakers off the floor or other resonance-prone surfaces. Co-developed with Peter Comeau, the engineer behind Mission 770, each 17.5 x 11.8 x 11.8-inch (HWD) stand features carbon-steel columns complete with internal damping, an 11.8 x 11.8-inch carbon-steel top plate, interlocked carbon-steel tube base frame, and adjustable stainless-steel spikes. Built-in cable management gives you the option of a super-clean, organized look. Finished in matte black, Mission 770 stands are both a practical and elegant way to get the most from your speakers.

"From its deep bass to its extended highs, the 770 proved commendably neutral, which is quite an achievement if it was truly designed more by ear than by measurements. But perhaps the ear-tuning is what instilled the performance aspects I liked most — the rich, powerful bass combined with a midrange that blossomed with realism with all the music I played, yet still provided detail akin to the best speakers I’ve heard."
—Doug Schneider, SoundStage! Network

"Although the new Mission 770 is technically superior to the original, it retains its predecessor's charm. It makes pretty much any type of music you play a real occasion. It doesn't do this by adding pleasant-sounding artifacts, though. Instead, it's clean enough to take you directly to the recording itself, at which point it steps aside as much as possible."
—David Price, Stereonet, Applause Award

"[John Atkinson] found the 770s' low frequencies extended and articulate, with low distortion. He was also impressed by the speaker's midrange, which he described as 'warm, detailed, and musically involving,' especially with vocal recordings. He summed up his time with the 770 by saying that its 'sonic character was in some ways more than the sum of its parts.'"
—Stereophile, 2025 Recommended Component

"We think these new Mission 770 are right up there with the very best at this price. While the link to the past will be the main attraction for some, for us that’s put in the shade by the speakers' excellent all-round performance. The 770 have a range of sonic talents that sets them apart from most rivals and earns them a glowing recommendation."
