High-End Sound, Cutting-Edge Technology, and a Sleek Footprint Harmonize in KEF Q550: Tower Loudspeaker Features Uni-Q Driver Array, Plays with Mesmerizing Soundstaging
Think you cannot fit an audiophile-grade tower loudspeaker in a smaller room? Think again. With a sleek 34.4 x 7.1 x 10.9-inch (HWD) footprint, KEF Q550 offers serious high-end DNA while coming in at a price point that leaves room for high-quality gear you'll need to match its stellar performance. Equipped with the same Uni-Q driver array found in the company's acclaimed Blade and Reference Series speakers, Q550 projects a cinematic soundstage that pulls listeners in regardless of their seating position. And because its one-inch tweeter resides at the center of the Uni-Q midrange driver array, Q550 delivers point-source accuracy and holography that ordinary box speakers simply can't match.
Such natural presentation of upper-register information combines with Q550's ability to reproduce the all-important midrange. By leveraging the new cone structure of its 5.25-inch aluminum bass driver, KEF eliminated the need for DC blocking, creating a seamless roll-off between drivers. In addition, the 32-pound speaker's innovative sealed-box cabinet design reduces the load on the driver's aluminum cone and tightens up lower mid frequencies to allow for tight, authoritative bass.
Speaking of the low end, Q550's 5.25-inch Auxiliary Bass Radiators (ABRs) have responsive spider suspension to control lower midrange and bass with remarkable authority and speed. To ensure smooth and natural frequency integration, Q550 boasts a damped tweeter loading tube and low-distortion inductor on the crossover. The result of all the technological innovation adds up to a floorstander that exhibits excellent poise across the frequency spectrum, making Q550 ideal for music and home theater. 100% Music Direct Satisfaction Guaranteed.
"Sit Anywhere" Uni-Q Sound
At the heart of the evolved Q Series is the Uni-Q driver array. KEF's signature innovation places the tweeter in the acoustic center of the midrange cone, bringing the acoustic ideal of a single point source closer than ever to realization. The result is a more detailed, more accurate three-dimensional sound image dispersed more evenly throughout the room than is possible with a conventional speaker. Uni-Q's ultra-wide dispersion is further enhanced by KEF's "tangerine" waveguide over the tweeter dome.
KEF Q Series Uni-Q Driver
With the addition of the damped tweeter loading tube providing a gentle termination of sound produced from the back of the tweeter, lower treble performance is improved dramatically and a new low-distortion inductor on the crossover provides cleaner bass.
Redesigned Bass Drivers
Low-frequency (LF) drivers now have a larger roll surround, along with a new spider suspension to produce cleaner bass at high volumes. A new cone structure improves midrange clarity, and enhanced Auxiliary Bass Radiators (ABRs) with a new surround and rear suspension deliver better controlled and more impressive bass.
New Cabinet Design
In the newest line of Q Series floorstanders, the Uni-Q driver has been placed in sealed box within the cabinet. The closed box midrange cabinet design reduces the load on the Uni-Q midrange cone, increasing clarity and detail while delivering cleaner, punchier bass. Midrange clarity is enhanced again through improvements to the mid-bass driver that allowed the DC blocking capacitor to be eliminated. Its removal also created a more natural bass roll-off between the drivers.
