Appearing on Vinyl for the First Time
This year marks the 40th anniversary of rock and roll giants Kiss and, in true Kiss fashion, the band plan to make 2014 the biggest and loudest, non-stop rock and roll party of the century. Millions of people around the world originally discovered Kiss when they brought home an album and put it on their turntable for the first time. Those original Kiss albums are now remastered and will be available on 180-gram heavyweight vinyl.
Kiss was the first signing to Neil Bogart’s Casablanca Records in 1973, offering them a contract on the spot after seeing them perform in New York City. Their self-titled debut would propel the band to the top of the rock and roll hierarchy where they have reigned for the past four decades, selling over 100 million albums worldwide. Kiss will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in April 2014, proof of the unparalleled devotion and loyalty of the Kiss Army to the “Hottest Band in the World.”
Following their #1-grossing reunion tour in 1996-97, Kiss delivered Psycho Circus in 1998, the band's first studio album in almost two decades to feature all four original members - Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss. Expertly produced by Bruce Fairbairn (Aerosmith, AC/DC, Bon Jovi), Psycho Circus was a glorious rebirth for the fantastic foursome, a grand moment of blood, sweat and spirited, high-decibel rock and roll.
While the album can't help but recall the group's classic 70's sound, it also serves as a brave and gargantuan head-first leap into the 90s. From the fist-pumping, banner waving, anthemic nature of "Raise Your Glasses" and the title track, to the demonic metal scorched savagery of "Within" and the wide-eyed Beatlesque experimentation of "Journey of 1,000 Years" and "We Are One to Into The Void," Psycho Circus is a marvel of attitude, ambition and amplification.
Lyrically, Psycho Circus also broke new frontiers for Kiss, a striking departure from the band's typically lascivious tongue-in-cheek themes. The lyrics on the album are often surprising and galvanizing, tackling a myriad of soul searching topics that celebrate the band themselves, the power of the individual and their vital connection with their audience.
