Description

More Than an Entry-Level Audiophile Turntable: Pro-Ject T2 Super Phono Includes MM Phonostage and Sumiko Rainier Cartridge, Provides Electronic Speed Change and Detailed Playback

Inexpensive turntables sold in paper-thin cardboard boxes are now a ubiquitous sight at box stores and record stores. But those decks are as cheaply built as they look, and will never provide the revealing detail, organic warmth, and connective presence for which vinyl is renowned. An affordable turntable that doe? The Pro-Ject T2 Super Phono.

Graced with a built-in phonostage and pre-adjusted Sumiko Rainier MM cartridge that help turn it into a complete analog system, this European-made model maintains audiophile-grade standards at a low price point by implementing manufacturing and design processes Pro-Ject uses to make its flagship models. The result: An entry-level 'table that delivers lively dynamics, vivid imaging, and superb tracking — as well as everything you need (except speakers and an amplification source, of course) to get spinning LPs.

Offering electronic speed change and precise playback, T2 Super Phono walks the talk with a nine-inch aluminum tonearm with integrated headshell, spring-based anti-skating system, and counterweight with nickel finish. Look underneath the attractive high-gloss finish, and you'll find a CNC-machined plinth that involves no plastic parts. It’s specially constructed to eliminate gaps and hollow spaces that cause lesser turntables to vibrate and rob music of clarity and focus. A thick, heavy, glass platter further reduces resonances common to cheaper plastic or lightweight steel designs. It lets T2 Super Phono render black backgrounds and provide propulsive pacing that will keep you reaching for record after record.

The superb motor-and-drive assembly is another way the belt-driven T2 Super Phono differs from the norm. Its subplatter sits atop a 0.001mm main bearing with a hardened steel axle and brass bushing — critical parts cheap turntables lack. Equally important, Pro-Ject's electronically regulated AC motor isn't subject to the wide speed fluctuations that plague models with unregulated DC motors. You’ll hear the benefits in terms of stability, quiet, and solidity. Vibration-absorbing feet, a semi-balanced shielded phono cable, elegant dustcover with adjustable hinges, felt mat, and singles adapter round out an all-in-one analog solution that doesn’t cut corners.

Split-Passive MM Phonostage
T2 Super Phono has a high-quality, dual-stage, split-passive MM phono preamp. Because of the considerable PCB space available on T2 Super Phono, it features extra power for longevity and audio performance. It can also be turned off if you want to use an MC cartridge T2 Super Phono (outboard phonostage will be required).
