Spin and Stream Your LPs to UPNP Devices in Audiophile Fidelity: European-Built Pro-Ject T2 W Wi-Fi Turntable Transmits 24-Bit Lossless to Streamers and More
The first audiophile turntable that streams the sound of your LPs to a vast array of UPNP network-enabled streamers, A/V receivers, smart TVs, and powered speakers without stability or data-loss hiccups, the Pro-Ject T2 W sends audio at theoretical speeds (2.4/5GHz with 2×2 MIMO, up to 866 mbps) faster than most modern internet connections — ensuring what you hear is in incredible fidelity. Able to transmit compressed or 24-bit/48kHz lossless, T2 W features multi-room capability and a multi-core CPU built to withstand streaming to multiple devices before bandwidth limits kick into gear. And that’s just the streaming end of this terrific merger of digital convenience and desired analog sound.
Built by hand in the E.U., the belt-driven T2 W is a high-end ‘table through and through. The large, CNC-machined plinth features not a drop of plastic and eliminates hollow spaces that cause unwanted resonance, A thick, 3.75-pound glass platter makes internal resonance a thing of the past while avoiding the shortcomings associated with plastic and light-weight steel designs. Purpose-selected isolation feet, acrylic dust cover with adjustable hinges, semi-symmetrical phono cable, and felt mat also come standard.
Borrowing from the approach used in the Pro-Ject T1, the T2 W motor and drive system uses a belt to drive a custom sub-platter mounted on an ultra-precise (within 0.001mm) main bearing with hardened steel axle and brass bushing. Though most competing products rely on unregulated DC motors with wide speed fluctuations, T2 W leans on a proven, electronically regulated AC motor. Electric speed-switching between 33 and 45RPM, located on the left side of the ’table, speaks to the ease of use and clean appearance.
Pro-Ject also equips the 12.1-pound T2 W with a newly devised nine-inch, aluminum, one-piece tonearm with updated low-friction bearings that suit the long length and diameter. The difference between it and detachable or screwed-in headshells is huge. Add to that a nickel-finished counterweight and adjustable spring-based anti-skating mechanism allows for easy setup and optimal performance of your phono cartridge. About the latter: T2 includes a pre-adjusted Sumiko Rainier MM cartridge as well as a dual-stage split-passive MM phono preamp that raises the bar on all prior integrated phonostages in Pro-Ject ’tables.
Measuring 11.8 x 21.3 x 16.2 inches (HWD), T2 W won the EISA Award for Best Vinyl System 2023-24 right out of the gate. Available in three colors, it makes a sonic and visual statement — all the while providing serious flexibility and modern ease — like no other ’table on the market in this price range.
