Built to the proverbial nines and fitted with an Exact 2 MM phono cartridge, Planar 3 also sports a stiff, lightweight, laminated plinth as well as a thicker metal-skin phenolic top brace complimented by a 3mm phenolic bottom brace. Intentionally mounted whereincreased rigidity is required (between the tonearm mounting and the main hub bearing), the double-braced combination forms a structurally robust “stressed beam” assembly. The bearing housing itself includes a brass main hub central bearing with ameliorated fit and construction to reduce internal stress. And the subplatter provides extra boosts in accuracy and stiffness, while the platter's float-glass Optiwhite-polished 12mm rim lends sought-after elegance and furthered fidelity. Planar 3 50th Anniversary Edition rests on custom support feet that reduce vibration transfer and runs cool thanks to integrated cooling in the motor cover tray.
