Regarded as the inventor of free jazz, musical innovator Ornette Coleman issued the well received album Change Of The Century on Atlantic Records in May 1960. Recording sessions for the album took place on October 8 and 9, 1959 in New York City and it consists of seven compositions, all Coleman originals. We hear Coleman on alto saxophone, Don Cherry on pocket trumpet, Charlie Haden on bass and Billy Higgins on drums. Some songs could be classified as free jazz, but there are also compositions that could easily be considered hard bop. Colored 180g vinyl LP.
