Change How and What You Hear: Bowers & Wilkins 703 S3 Floor-Standing Loudspeaker Aims to Put You in the Recording Engineer's Chair

What's it like to experience music reproduced with an openness that lets you hear the distinctive textures of the instruments, unique tonal character of vocalists, and ambience of the space in which it was recorded? The Bowers & Wilkins 703 S3 floor-standing loudspeaker invites you to find out.

Incorporating materials originally devised for the company’s flagship 800 Diamond Series, the 63.5-pound floorstander provides emotionally engaging playback distinguished by definition, transparency, purity, and detail that practically puts you in the recording engineer’s seat. A host of upgrades —new-generation Tweeter-on-Top housing with an elongated form that incorporates a tube-loading system for enhanced highs; narrower cabinets; curved baffles; enhancements to the motors, chassis, crossovers, and terminal trays — make 703 S3 an entirely different beast than its revered predecessor. You may have also noticed 703 S3 boasts luxurious looks — the clean, simple elegance capped by its high-grade lacquer finish and signature Tweeter-on-Top design.

About that feature at the heart of the three-way 703 S3: a one-inch Decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter that raises the breakup threshold to 47kHz for pinpoint imaging, sharpness, and accuracy. It resides above a six-inch Decoupled Continuum cone Fixed Suspension Transducer (FST) midrange driver that plays with naturalism, neutrality, and control. Equipped with Biomimetic Suspension and midrange decoupling, it resists distortion, vibration, and interference. Low-frequency depth and serious dynamics come courtesy of two 6.5-inch Aerofoil Profile bass cones. A Flowport reduces friction and improves efficiency. You can also dial-in the bass responsiveness of 703 S3 to your liking by inserting the supplied two-piece foam plug into the rear-firing port.

Measuring 44 x 11.4 x 14.6 inches (HWD) and offering a relatively easy-to-drive 90dB sensitivity, 703 S3 plays with big, powerful, and consistently breathtaking sound. And since it arrives voice-matched to every other model in the 700 Series, 703 S2 it can serve as a two-channel dynamo or be part of a dream home-theater system. Removable magnetic grilles, dual gold-plated binding-post terminals, rubber feet and spikes, and a five-year manufacturer warranty all come standard.

“[The] Bowers & Wilkins 703 S3s were solid performers that did upper and upper-midrange exceptionally well, while nailing everything else. It was their versatility I felt that took the 703 S3s to the next level—they played pretty much every genre convincingly.”

Bowers & Wilkins: A Legacy of Amazing Sound

The story of Bowers & Wilkins starts with one man—John Bowers. His drive and passion are written into the DNA of the company he founded more than 50 years ago. Bowers dreamed of producing the perfect loudspeaker, capable of delivering recorded sound that is utterly faithful to the actual musical performance and to the artist's original intent. His obsessive pursuit of perfection and steadfast refusal to accept anything but the very best continues to shape everything the company does. "Good enough" simply isn't good enough for Bowers & Wilkins. For decades, Bowers & Wilkins loudspeakers have been the trusted choice of musicians, producers, and recording studio engineers around the globe. B&W speakers are as fundamental to many artists' creative process as their preferred microphone or favorite guitar.
